They cheapen us, masturbate our senses, hammer us with shabby thrills, diminish the value of life.&#8221;<\/em><br \/>\n<em> &#8211; Roger Ebert<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Roger Ebert calls the film Tree of Life a <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.suntimes.com\/ebert\/2011\/05\/a_prayer_beneath_the_tree_of_l.html\">prayer<\/a>&#8230;not asking for something, not to someone or something, but a prayer for everyone and everything.\u00a0 It most definitely is not your typical Hollywood fare.\u00a0 It is a film that is beautifully shot and for the most part edited (I did think one sequence was a little long).\u00a0 It is a film the plays with the idea of what the beginning and end actually are.<\/p>\n<div><object width=\"560\" height=\"349\" classid=\"clsid:d27cdb6e-ae6d-11cf-96b8-444553540000\" codebase=\"http:\/\/download.macromedia.com\/pub\/shockwave\/cabs\/flash\/swflash.cab#version=6,0,40,0\"><param name=\"allowFullScreen\" value=\"true\" \/><param name=\"allowscriptaccess\" value=\"always\" \/><param name=\"src\" value=\"http:\/\/www.youtube-nocookie.com\/v\/WXRYA1dxP_0?version=3&amp;hl=en_US\" \/><param name=\"allowfullscreen\" value=\"true\" \/><\/object><\/div>\n<p>This isn&#8217;t a film for everyone though. Which in some ways can lead to that &#8220;I&#8217;m a genius film maker and smarter than you&#8221; vibe. The way it plays with time can make it difficult to follow. \u00a0In all honesty, I&#8217;m not entirely sure how I felt about it. \u00a0I mentioned above one sequence I thought could have been edited a little differently (I think it could have been a little shorter without affecting the impact of the sequence). \u00a0I do think that one of the ideas was to keep you questioning, both when and where you are, but how we are connected with each other and our world.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>&#8220;Many films diminish us.
