{"id":186,"date":"2008-01-03T10:00:00","date_gmt":"2008-01-03T17:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.rhinoblues.com\/thoughts-wp\/?p=186"},"modified":"2011-09-03T11:24:17","modified_gmt":"2011-09-03T18:24:17","slug":"the-2008-project","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rhinoblues.com\/thoughts\/2008\/01\/the-2008-project\/","title":{"rendered":"The 2008 Project"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Last year, my friend Elizabeth and I set out to read a book a week (or the equivalent by the end of the year).&nbsp; The first half of the year, I was doing pretty good, however, with the move to L.A. things slowed down significantly during the second half of the year.&nbsp; My final total for 2007 was 30 books. (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.rhinoblues.com\/thoughts\/2007\/12\/books-ive-read-in-2007\/\">The list is here<\/a>).&nbsp; Elizabeth ended up making it to 52 (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.goodreads.com\/review\/list\/130239?shelf=2007-project\">Her list is here<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>Since I didn&#8217;t make it to last years goal, I&#8217;m starting anew with my 2008 project.&nbsp; My goal is to at least improve on last years total, while still striving to attain the book a week goal.<\/p>\n<p>To start of this year&#8217;s project the following books are on the nightstand queue:<br \/><i>The Audacity of Hope<\/i> by Barak Obama<br \/><i>How We Are Hungry<\/i> by Dave Eggers<br \/><i>You Shall Know Our Velocity<\/i> by Dave Eggers<br \/><i>Hocus Pocus<\/i> by Kurt Vonnegut<br \/><i>Sacred Games<\/i> by Vikram Chandra<br \/><i>Getting Things Done<\/i> by David Allen (re-read)<br \/><i>What&#8217;s Your Poo Telling You? <\/i>by Josh Richman &amp; Anish Sheth, M.D. (a gift from Elizabeth)<br \/><i>The Secret Lives of Men and Women: A Postsecret Book<\/i> compiled by Frank Warren<\/p>\n<p>That should get me the first few month&#8217;s at least.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ve also got a few books in mind that I plan to read this year:<br \/><i>Tree of Smoke<\/i> by Denis Johnson<br \/><i>The Name of the Rose<\/i> by Umberto Eco<br \/><i>The Chronicles of Narnia<\/i> Series by C.S.
